Taking Cuttings

When cleaning up my fig tree after this years fruiting, I decided to experiment with a little propagation by taking a half meter cutting from the end of a young branch.
A pot fill of potting mix and six months later my bare little cutting has small green buds atop of it.

Figs Galore

Organic figs.

Gosh its hard to keep up with the ripening fruit on our so called "dwarf" fig tree this year. Even when we share it with the birds, every day we get a kilo or so off the tree. We've made jam, preserved them in sweetened syrup and dried them.

Here's a great fig jam recipe:

900 grams ripe figs
2 Tblsp Sherry
3/4 cup of orange juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
900 grams sugar

Roughly chop figs (leave skin on) and cook with the juices and sherry until soft.
Add sugar and boil until it reaches setting point (~ 25mins)
Pour into sterilised jars and seal.

Try it and let me know what you think !
